44 Trap Points At Woburn

The facing point lock mechanism for 44 trap points at Woburn is not covered with the usual wooden planking. This has given me the opportunity to document facing point lock mechanisms in detail on my Economical Facing Point Lock page. I decided to do this before the structures disappear in the next round of track lifting.

On this page I document the specific configuration of 44 trap points.

This diagram shows the north end of Woburn. The trap points in the loop are mechanically operated from 44 mainline points. The trap points protect the main line from runaway vehicles in the loop.

Looking north. Signal 14C Shunt and Up Starting From Loop (Woburn) is fixed Red, although in the S&I I have it is listed as being blacked out. The two lower lenses have been vandalised. There is still some maintenance work being done at Woburn as several weeks before this photograph was taken 14C had been pushed over by vandals.

From left - Up main, Down Main and the Loop. The facing point lock mechanism (behind 14C) is not covered and is clearly visible from the boundary fence.

The motor for 44 points, looking south towards Woburn Station. The operating rod for the trap points is connected to the side of the motor via a 90 degree crank.
