New Zealand Signal Aspects This page explains the term Aspect and defines the aspects used for Automatic Running Signals. (Right) The use of "Multi-aspect" to describe a three lens signal is confusing - the adjacent searchlight signal is also multi-aspect! (1965 Rule Book).

Two Units. The number of aspects can be increased by stacking units vertically. Two units give a total of nine available aspects with non-flashing lights. The New Zealand system uses six of the available non-flashing aspects. |
Three Units. Some signals have a third short-range unit that can display a yellow light. It is classed as a Low Speed light. |
